HYDROTHERAPY TREATMENT
EQUINE WATER TREADMILL
HOW IT WORKS
Training on the equine water treadmill is proven to enhance core stability, endurance, and muscle mass. The incline function allows advanced fitness to be reached with effective uphill training.
Water depth, belt speed, and incline are used to provide a controlled environment for the rehabilitation of equine spinal conditions and limb injuries.

WHAT IT DOES
The treadmill is designed for training specific muscle groups, and it reduces lower-body concussions by encouraging a buoyant stance.
The water encourages natural movement in the horse, leading to an improvement in muscle strength, joint mobility, core stability, and balance.
THE WATER TREADMILL MAY HELP TO:
-
Reduce mechanical stresses applied to the limbs
-
Improve joint range of motion
-
Decrease pain and inflammation
-
Improve muscle strength
-
Increase cardiovascular endurance
-
Promote circulation and reduce edema
-
Restore sensory and motor disturbances
-
Maintain athletic performance
-
Improve motor control and joint stability
-
Improve stride length

WHO WILL BENEFIT FROM THE WATER TREADMILL
-
Horses recovering from traumatic or repetitive injuries
-
Horses who have developed inhibiting or painful compensatory patterns of movement
-
Older animals who may have developed painful arthritic changes in their joints
-
Horses requiring an increase and/or maintenance in their athletic performance
-
WHY IS THE AQUA TREADMILL SO BENEFICIAL?By moving in the water, horses get power and endurance training without high pressure on their tendons and skeleton in a safe and controlled environment, making it ideal in terms of recovery.
-
HOW DO THE HORSES FEET DO WITH THE WATER?The Aqua Treadmill uses a salt water chlorination system which assists in preventing moisture from being pulled from the hoof. This ensures the water does not affect their feet in any negative way and helps their feet get better faster by increasing the sole depth.
-
HOW DO I INTRODUCE A HORSE TO THE TREADMILL?We recommend that you familiarize your horse with the unit by walking him up and into it, closing the doors and letting him stand. We find that an average horse needs to be walked through the unit about three times to get comfortable with it and be ready to exercise in the unit.
-
WHAT CONDITIONS CAN THE TREADMILL BE USED TO TREAT?Horses in recovery from injury or surgery will have great benefits from working in the Aqua treadmill. By moving in water, the horse is given a good workout without the high pressure on their tendons and skeleton, training muscles that may not possible to develop during a normal riding session
-
DO THE HORSES PANIC WHEN IT STARTS TO FILL UP WITH WATER?The salt water enters from the bottom and the fresh water trickles down the side from the rear of the horse. In both cases, the water enters the treadmill slowly and quietly so the horse has a chance to become accustomed to the water.
